Missed the Quiz

For those of you who missed the quiz. Remember you have one week-and one week only-to make up the classroom vocab quiz. You need to schedule it for before or after school and let me know at least one day in advance.

Dictionaries Ordered

Alright, guys. I went to Books-A-Million and ordered the Spanish-English dictionaries if you signed up. I went with the paperback LaRousse dictionary after talking it over with my old Spanish teachers at Murray State University. It will be $6.99 plus tax. I will let you know when they come in (10-15 days) so you can pick them up. Go ahead and tell your parents the cost though, so it is not a surprise to them. If you change your mind about getting one (as in you no longer want it, or maybe you now do want one), also tell me. =)

Homework-All Spanish 1 Blocks

No homework...but...remember:

If you didn't finish the worksheet...it became homework. Send questions to kelly.rottman@mccracken.kyschools.us or comment on this blog post. If you were absent for the FFA stuff, see me, and I'll help you before/after school and/or before/after class.

Look over the study guide and note: Quiz Wednesday and Thursday depending on your block. It will resemble the worksheet. Filling in missing phrases in actual conversations. There will also be a listening comprehension component and a matching section for numbers 1-15.

Think about videos. Locate props. Plan. Pick names and phone numbers. Taping starts Wednesday.

We have an AWESOME art project planned for a week from Monday to learn colors that I worked out with our charming and talented art teacher Mrs. Stamper. Try to remember that you will you need a shirt you CAN get dirty so you don't get paint on your nice clothes by accident. If your parents read the paper and toss it when done, please bring the newspaper to class. We will need it to cover the desks. I'm not ready to paint the desks and floor just yet...haha =)

tengas un buen fin de semana---have a great weekend and nos vemos!

Purple Day Bellringer-Friday

Go to Quia and work on Conversación Básico games to practice. You may use your study guide and notes. ¡No hablen! No talking! =)

Gold Day Instructions

Buenos días o buenas tardes, mis estudiantes.

Bellringer:

Today, you have dos (2).
  1. Come to me ONLY A FEW AT A TIME (while you wait work on #2). You must answer ¿Cómo te llamas? y ¿Cómo estás? After completing this, and receiving my "seal of approval" write your name (Spanish first English last) in the Daily Grades Binder.
  2. Go to helpful links (left of this page) and click Quia. Go to Conversación Básico and complete the activities there. You may use your study guide and listen to music if you have headphones.
  3. Check your classes Graded papers. Clear Drawers labeled by block. Collect your papers. Check Infinite Campus and if you received something back and it does NOT have a grade listed, tell me ASAP.
if your computer or internet is down....you have a quiz in un momentito...study classroom commands quietly and you may still listen to music if you so wish and have your headphones with you.

Here is how the assignment was graded:

If you received a =) or a checkmark on the Alphabet, you received full credit (20 pts).

If you did not have a check mark, it was late, and you received partial credit.

If I marked your paper as late, and you were absent but did not write "Absent" on your paper, write it on there now. Place the paper back in your block's colored drawer for "turn in" and I will correct it.

If you attempted the accents you received full credit, but I did mark the correct answers for you. If you have questions, see me during "group work" activities in class. (30 pts).

Total points: 50

Parents of Purple Day Students

Parents/Guardians--

Grades have been posted in Infinite Campus for your child if they are in my Purple 1st, 2nd, or 4th block. Please review the grades. A zero for an assignment means that the student did not turn in the homework. This is the only week your child will receive an opportunity to turn in a late assignment for a late grade. For the rest of the semester, late work will not be accepted. All late work must be turned in NO LATER THAN THIS FRIDAY.

If you are worried about a grade, students can bring in up to 3 school items (Kleenex, copy paper, scissors, colored pencils, construction paper, etc) at 5 points/item, for a total of 15 bonus points. It is the only extra credit opportunity that is anticipated for the rest of the semester. It must be turned in by the end of this month.

The policy on make-up work due to absences can be found in the course syllabus via Google Documents under Course Information. Please note: it the responsibility of the student to obtain make up work, seek extra help, and copy notes from other students. Just so you know, students are aware that there is a special drawer to place homework that is late due to absences, so I can give them full credit. They also know handouts can also be found in our clear drawer labeled "leftovers and extras" and that below it any homework worksheets can also be found. *note: If a student is absent, i will still record the missing work as a 0 until it is received

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at kelly.rottamn@mccracken.kyschools.us

Last--thank you for being so generous with your students. We are off to a great start and I truly enjoy having EACH of them in my classes. I was not prepared for the excitement, willingness, dedication, respect, and kindness of my students, and I am truly grateful to be teaching here at LOHS this year.

Purple Day (Homework Tips)

***update: this assignment has been moved to Thursday***

Che, o Hey, Purple Day. =) I am posting a little early to make sure I don't forget. We have A LOT to do hoy.

Homework Errores, my typos:

Convo 1 (in the morning with a friend) Last line, Maria, should be Adiós not Adíos

Convo 2 (in the afternoon...). Last line, Felipe, Igualmente not Igual.

Hint for Convo 3 (just meeting someone...) Eva's last line should be some form of bye.

Hint for Convo 4 (accidental bump) Marcos can say Ay and then one of 2 things. One would be 2 words and I gave it to you in class. The other is one word and on your study guide.
