Grades on Infinite Campus

Grades for all classes have been updated on infinite campus.

A 0 means I did not receive the assignment or perhaps they did not put a name on it.

Missing work may be turned in MONDAY/TUESDAY for a LATE grade.

Many of the worksheets are available on edmodo in their library or under assignments.

They may contact me via edmodo or my email (kelly.rottman@mccracken.kyschools.us) if they have any questions about the missing grades.

They may also see me before school on Monday, however, waiting until before school does not leave much time to finish the work for a grade.

Gustar Notes from Today

gustar--to be pleasing to, to like

gusta--singular, use with el or la, or for verbs (I like to sing. Me gusta cantar)
gustan-plural, use with los or las (Te gustan los libros--you like the books)

You need to conjugate gustar just like you did ser.

me gusta/n (I like)                                      nos gusta/n (we like)

te gusta/n (you-informal like)                     os gusta/n (you plural-Spain-like)

le gusta/n (she/he/you-formal like)            les gusta/n (they/you-plural Latin America-like)

for emphasis and to show exactly who likes something you can say A ella, A Juan, A nosotros, etc.

Two rules:
You never say A yo, you say A mí, me gusta
You never say A tú, you say, A ti, te gusta

Please study the pronouns. As with ser, every time we use a verb we conjugate according to the boxes set up in the same way.

yo                        nosotros/nosotras

tú                        vosotros/vosotras

él                        ellos
ella                     ellas
Usted                 Ustedes

Make sure you know what each of the pronouns mean and examples (ie: Rosa could be replaced with ella, Juan y yo could be replaced by nosotros, Carlos y Maria could be replaced with ellos)

I                              we

you-informal         you plural Spain

he                          they
she                        they feminine
you-formal           you plural Latin America

Here are your directions for the day. Please read them all! Post any questions and I will respond.

You may listen to music while you work, but you need to keep talking at a whisper. You will be held accountable for all homework.

I will check the vocab, translations, and homework sheet at the start of class Friday before we go over it, so you must have at least attempted every question.

Thank you for working through the delay today and staying focused. 3rd and 4th, thanks for working with schedule changes.

Most of you already finished the worksheet, if not make sure the front and back is completed for homework.

Review how to tell time and give the date in Spanish.

Remember the date is always DAY then MONTH

On the homework, take the English date and write the words in Spanish.

1) 4/17 (April 17th)

Es el cuatro de abril.

Remember the day is NOT capitalized in Spanish.

2. 6/01 (June 1st) The first day of the month is called el primero, not el uno.

Es el primero de junio.

Try to review the following questions from the beginning of the year:
1) ¿Cómo te llamas? Me llamo....
2) ¿Cómo se escribe tu nombre? Se escribe...
3) ¿De dónde eres? Soy de...
4)¿Cuál es tu correo electrónico? Es.....
5) ¿Qué hora es? Es la ... or Son las....

On October 12 & 13, 2010, 33 Chilean miners were rescued from a collapsed mine below the Atacama Desert near Copiapo, Chile.  They had been trapped below ground for 69 & 70 days.  This disaster was long lasting and involved not only Chilean resources to resolve the situation, but rather a joining of resources from several countries and organizations.  Research how the disaster was handled and resolved citing/using examples of specific events that occurred during the process to rescue the miners and that led up to the collapse of the mine.  Then use this information to write a persuasive essay discussing how the United States should learn from this experience and suggesting how to improve its response to national disasters.  Use the items below to assist you.

Grades Updates

All grades from this 9 weeks have been recorded in Infinite Campus.

There are several failing grades likely for the following reasons:

NO NAMES I have a huge stack of papers with no names. Until I know who they belong to, I can't enter the grade, so you may have a zero! Check with me BY FRIDAY to claim them. The sooner it is claimed, the sooner I can change the grade.

MISSING WORK. If you are absent, I record it as a zero until you make up the work. If you missed a quiz, you have one week from the absence to make up the work. Before school, during lunch, or after school. Please schedule the make up quizzes! (We have had two so far: adjectives and ser, and the column 1 verbs)

Didn't do the work or didn't turn it in..... I do not take late work, so please do all homework on time and turn it in!

TeacherNet Home Trouble: Check and see if I recorded your grade for the poem, some of you may not have sent the poem into TeacherNet Homes correctly. If you show it to me BY FRIDAY, I will record the grade.

Binders: If you didn't have your binder in class when I did the binder check, you still need to show me the binder to get credit for it. It is an easy grade, so show me the binder/folder/notebook that has all the Spanish stuff in it.

Any questions can be sent to me at kelly.rottman@mccracken.kyschools.us or you may see me before or after school.
